APEL EYEWEAR

MILITARY COMBAT EYE PROTECTION (MCEP)

The Military Combat Eye Protection (MCEP) program's mission is to reduce the risk that various hazards pose to soldiers on the battlefield. The Army's MCEP conducts rigorous testing to ensure that soldiers have access to the right eyewear for the job. Eyewear that is approved by MCEP is placed on the Authorized Protective Eyewear List (APEL).

All APEL eyewear must meet standards set forth by the Army Vision Conservation and Readiness Program. APEL eyewear must also meet or exceed ANSI Z87.1-2010 and MIL-PRF-3103 standards. APEL eyewear includes features like:

  • 99.9% UV protection
  • Ballistic-rated impact protection
  • Heat, chemical, and dust protection
  • Scratch and fog resistance

APPROPRIATE WEAR

MCEP eyewear can be worn both on and off duty for any activity during which hazards may be encountered. This includes:

  • Outdoor and sporting activities
  • Training exercises
  • Household tasks such as yardwork and auto maintenance
  • Working with power tools
  • Operating heavy machinery

PRESCRIPTION EYEWEAR

All MCEP devices use a universal prescription insert, which means you're able to change MCEP eyewear without getting a new insert. Look for eyewear with the Universal Prescription Lens Carrier (UPLC) compatible icon.

ARMY OCP UNIFORM DETAILS
