Entry-level privates who have just entered the Army are not given any insignia to wear. However, after six months of service, they will be awarded the PV2 E2 Army ACU velcro rank to signify their position within the Army. Certain qualifications may warrant awarding of the badge before six months have been spent in basic combat training. The image on the badge is known as a chevron, but you may hear people refer to it as “mosquito wings.” Once this ranking has been achieved, the duties of the private will consist of carrying out duties given to him or her by the commanding officer.
