The parachutist ABU skill badge is a military badge of the United States Armed Forces that is awarded to members of the U.S. Army, Air Force, Marine Corps and Navy. Commonly referred to as “Jump Wings,” the Parachutist Badge is awarded to individuals who meet all the necessary requirements. A majority of people earn their Parachutist Badge through the U.S. Army Airborne School. The badge was formally approved on March 10th, 1941.
The parachutist ABU skill badge consists of an open parachute over a pair of wings that are curving inward. The wings symbolize flight, and the parachute represents individual proficiency and parachute qualifications. In order to be eligible for the badge, an individual must have completed the Basic Airborne Course of the Airborne School of the United States Army Infantry School. To graduate, a student must complete the three-phase course consisting of a ground phase, tower phase and jump phase. By the end of the course, the student will have successfully completed five jumps in varying configurations, from a no-load jump to a full combat load jump at night.
